Join Chicagoland's only professional forager, Dave Odd, for an edible plant and mushroom identification walk where you will learn at least 50 species of edible plants that grow in the vicinity.
Dave Odd of Odd Produce asserts his capability to recognize over 1,000 edible and medicinal plants along with up to 250 species of mushrooms. He assures us that we'll encounter at least 50 edible plants on our walk at Fox Bluff Conservation Area. Participants will familiarize themselves with plant characteristics like leaf shape, arrangement, and reproductive parts (cones, seeds, fruits, flowers) and learn how to differentiate between edible and toxic plants. There will be no plant sampling, just identification. Everyone has to stay on the trail and follow the park rules.
Fox Bluff Conservation Area address: 1300 Cold Springs Rd, Algonquin, IL 60102.
In case of bad weather, the program will take place in the large meeting room at Harnish. Instead of a foraging tour, the presenter will do a lecture.
