Donate your gently used gowns to a good cause! My Sister's Dress is a used dress sale that benefits the Education to Empowerment scholarship at MCC. Donations accepted at AAPLD until February 19th.
Prom dresses, homecoming dresses, bridesmaid dresses, mother-of-the-bride dresses, and even the occasional wedding gown or two! We will also take shoes and purses. You can leave your donation on the clothing rack in the library's lobby area. If you are a high school student, snap a photo and send it to teen@aapld.org for a volunteer hour.
You do not need to have an Algonquin Library card to donate a dress. If you miss the deadline, last minute dresses may be dropped off at McHenry County College in the days between February 19th and February 23rd. If you would like to volunteer for the actual dress sale itself on Sunday, February 23, 2025, please contact mysistersdress@gmail.com -- they can always use the extra help.
Each dress will cost $25.00 at the sale. Proceeds go to the Education to Empowerment scholarship fund and you can learn more about that by clicking here. To date, Education to Empowerment has awarded $720,000 in scholarships to 77 MCC students. AAPLD has been a dress donation site for the past two years and our community has contributed around 500 gowns already, so let's go for another 250 this year!
