Join Illinois Master Gardeners' expert volunteers to learn about outdoor winter seed sowing in this hands-on session! Bring a clean empty plastic gallon jug, garden gloves and a small hand shovel.
Come join our local Master Gardeners for a hands-on, no fuss, no muss method of seed starting using a gallon milk/water bottle, garden gloves and a hand shovel for working with potting soil. Our session will last about an hour. You will take home the jug with your new seed plantings.
Winter seed sowing - what is it? Starting seeds in a mini-greenhouse outdoors in the winter! It is a propagation method used throughout winter where temperate climate seeds are sown into protective vented containers and placed outdoors to foster a timely naturally timed high percentage germination of climate-tolerant seedlings.
Be sure to take advantage of our seed library also, beginning on March 1st.
