Here is your chance to see inside and up close the hand-painted artwork and delicately crafted miniature artifacts as if you were 5 inches tall! You’ll also get a glimpse of the conservation project completed in 2014 and a “behind-the-fairytales” story of how the Castle came to be.
Colleen Moore was an American film actress who began her career during the silent film era. Moore always loved dolls and dollhouses, and encouraged by her father, she built herself a dream house. She worked with many of her industry colleagues to craft this miniature fairy castle. During the Great Depression, Moore toured the country with her fantasy dollhouse to raise funds for children’s charities. After touring, the fairy castle was welcomed into its new home at The Museum of Science and Industry where it has enchanted children of all ages since 1949.
Presented by Margaret Schlesinger, a life-long museum professional. She was a curator at the Museum of Science and Industry for 15 years where she worked on Colleen Moore's Fairy Castle Conservation and Exhibit Project.
Come early for coffee and conversation beginning at 1:30 pm. The program will begin promptly at 2 pm.
