Collect an animal toy and give it bright colors! Create your own Alebrije and let the community celebrate with you! The library will bring them to Amuzgo Mexican Cuisine ahead of Día de Muertos.
On Día de Muertos, the Day of the Dead, it’s believed that the border between the spirit world and the real world dissolve. During this brief period, the souls of the dead awaken and return to the living world to feast, drink, dance and play music with their loved ones. In turn, the living family members treat the deceased as honored guests in their celebrations, and leave the deceased’s favorite foods and other offerings at gravesites or on the ofrendas built in their homes.
You will be creating an Alebrije which will be a spirit guide. Pick yours up at either the Harnish Main Library or the Eastgate Branch Library by October 10 and return it to us by October 24 to see it displayed at Amuzgo Mexican Cuisine ahead of Día de Muertos. Stop in to vote for your favorite entry when you pick up dinner through Monday, November 7.
Pickup begins October 3, but please wait for the Library to contact you to let you know your project is ready to be picked up.
