Theater historian Todd Hunt presents a lively, engaging presentation tracing the remarkable journey of The Sound of Music from Broadway triumph to beloved Hollywood classic. Using photos, audio recordings, and memorable film clips, this program explores the true story behind the legend.
Maria was a spirited young Austrian postulant who left the abbey in 1927 to serve as governess to the seven children of widowed Captain von Trapp. Her warmth and determination transformed the household, led to marriage, and ultimately carried the family to America, where they reinvented themselves as the concert-performing Trapp Family Singers.
Discover how this real-life story inspired the 1959 Broadway hit starring Mary Martin, television’s unforgettable Peter Pan, and the 1965 Academy Award–winning film featuring Julie Andrews, fresh from Mary Poppins.
Come early for coffee and conversation beginning at 1:30 pm. The program will begin promptly at 2 pm.
