Since its 1939 release, David O. Selznick’s lush production of Gone with the Wind has remained the greatest box office hit in motion picture history. The movie won 8 Academy Awards, including Best Picture. But in the 21st century, increased awareness and sensitivity popped the film’s “cultural invisibility” bubble of racist depictions of blacks and casual acceptance of slavery.
